U of T professor Molly Shoichet was the recipient this summer of a McLean award, a $100,000 endowment given to researchers still in the early stages of their careers. Shoichet, who is a chemical engineer and researches the spinal cord, is already U of T’s Canada Research Chair in Tissue Engineering. The award is based on peer review and given out by the Connaught Committee, an offshoot of the university’s governing council.

The committee also awarded McLean fellowships to eight professors, which will allow them to take six months off teaching to concentrate on their research.
