The Varsity Blues women’s field hockey team started their season with wins over Queen’s Gaels and York Lions at McGill Stadium.
The defending CIS champions dominated both teams, with veterans Hannah Tighe and Katherine McNeill and 2010–11 female athlete of the year Kaelen Watson all scoring.
Watson scored twice in the Blue’s convincing 6–0 victory over Queen’s, a game which also saw goals from McNeill, Tighe, Gabriella Permell and Alexandra Evanyshyn.
The match against the York Lions featured similar play, with the Blues downing the Lions 8–0. Watson contributed two more goals, with singles for Tighe, Pernell and Alex Thicke.
Sophomore Evanyshyn racked up her first hat trick of the season against York. Evanyshyn led all players with six goals at the CIS championship last year, in her rookie campaign.
The Blues will take on the Western Mustangs and McGill Martlets at Varsity Stadium on September 24th
