Despite fans’ reservations about the venue for the Mumford & Sons concert last night, the British folk-rock quartet filled the ACC with the same reckless enthusiasm that they’re known for. The band kicked off with energetic bluegrass tracks Lover’s Eyes and Roll Away Your Stone, while the crowd stomped along. They played almost the entirety of their 2009 debut Sigh No More, and every track was met with rowdy cheers from an elated audience, especially the upbeat numbers like Little Lion Man, Blank White Page, and encore The Cave. The exceptions were the more refined, heavier tracks off their not-yet-released album, which made the band tangibly nervous and definitely slowed the momentum of the show. Despite the colossal venue and questionable acoustics, Mumford & Sons’ genuine awe of the packed stadium (“This is more than double our biggest show!”) and easy back-and-forth with the crowd somehow transformed their show into the intimate performance their fans had hoped for.
