The University of St. Michael’s College (USMC) has announced that Dr. David Sylvester will succeed David Mulroney as its eighth President and Vice-Chancellor. The appointment was announced on March 1, following the recommendation of the USMC governing board, the Collegium, after a special meeting on February 15. Sylvester will begin his initial five-year term on August 1, 2018.

Since 2009, Sylvester previously served as Principal of King’s University College at Western University. He also spent a decade as President of Corpus Christi College and Principal of St. Mark’s College, which are both affiliated with the University of British Columbia.

In addition to his appointment as President, Sylvester will teach in the USMC-affiliated Mediaeval Studies program in the Faculty of Arts & Science.

“I am very excited to be coming to St. Michael’s,” Sylvester said in a press release from USMC. “It’s an institution with a storied history and passionate and influential alumni and supporters. St. Michael’s is both an independent Catholic university and a federated partner of one of the world’s leading public research universities.”
