Sometimes things are changed to keep them more the same. Looking back over the issues of the past year and anticipating the year that’s just begun, we can note certain efforts to stop the advances that are being attempted in education.

Tuition, for example, has been raised a hundred bucks to keep up with inflated education expenses, or so the justification goes.

Fees haven’t been hiked in so many years that it’s not really an increase but rather a step to maintain the present costs to the students according to politicians and the press.

What is at stake is nearly forgotten.

Some people cannot afford to go to college with its current price tag.
“Universal accessibility” was just an expedient phrase to the Ontario government.

If it was more than that, tuition hikes wouldn’t be rationalized on the grounds of maintaining the present system which makes money a factor in deciding the future of students.

…Expect more of this throughout ’77.
