Uof T Prez Search: It’s like Canadian Idol, only no one under 65 is allowed to vote!
Membership of the committee that will select a replacement for Interim President Frank Iacobucci was approved by Governing Council on Sept. 23.
The 15-member committee will be chaired by GC Chair Rose Patten, and includes GC members Joseph Mapa, David Wilson, Business Board Chair Jacqueline Orange, and GC Vice-Chair John Petch. The group will work in conjunction with professional headhunters to narrow the field of candidates.
A press release from U of T public affairs reported that the committee was “chosen to reflect the breadth of the university community.”
While the committee meets the representational requirements set out by university policy, over one third of the selection committee is made up of current or former members of Governing Council, and fully one third of its members are faculty representatives; twenty percent of members (3 representatives) are students, while one member holds an administrative position.
A successful candidate must be supported by at least 12 of 15 members; the math-if you weren’t following-means that it is possible for a president to be appointed regardless of which way the student reps vote
The committee is set to begin their search for Iacobucci’s replacement immediately.
