With Monday’s municipal election right around the corner, the good folks at ArtsVote, a non-partisan organization that stresses the importance of the arts to the city, have issued their Report Card evaluating candidates for mayor and councillor on their past support of and involvement in the arts. With over 225,000 people working in the cultural sector in Toronto, the arts play a vital role in the social and financial health of the city, and voters-both artists and arts-lovers alike-are urged to show their support for the arts by casting a ballot for candidates based on their past voting history and current platform on arts-related issues. Mayoral candidates David Miller and Barbara Hall get an A+ and an A respectively from ArtsVote. For the rest of the grades (many candidates did not even bother to respond to a questionnaire sent to them by ArtsVote, but there are marks for incumbents and challengers in several wards), check out www.artsvote.ca.
