Another round of university rankings, another round of damage control at the University of Toronto.

Last Tuesday, the Globe & Mail released its newest university rankings. The survey solicited the opinions of 27,811 current students about five aspects of their university experience.

University president David Naylor, no fan of media university rankings, was quick to defend the university’s rather dismal grades at last Thursday’s meeting of the university’s Governing Council.

“U of T is the only Canadian university that is genuinely world-class in multiple fields,” said Naylor. “Perhaps it is a matter of internal communication,” between the university and its undergraduates, a problem the administration is seeking to remedy.

“Perhaps too few undergraduates have a chance to interact with the many world-class scholars on campus,” he mused.
