Three enterprising Grade 11 students were quick to spot their opportunities in a new junk food ban at B.C. schools.

Stocked with illicit sweets purchased from a local grocery store, Somerford and his two accomplices, Scott Simpson and Mark Stoklosa—respectively known as The Fern, WeeMan, and Goggles—brought relief to Moscrop’s sugar drought. The operation was shut down upon discovery by school staff, so the boys moved their business off campus.

“We were just chilling, making fun of how the school banned candy, and we were like, you know, we could actually make some money off this,” said Frank Somerford of Burnaby’s Moscrop Secondary School to Canadian Press.
