Varsity Blues men’s hockey player Bryon Elliott was signed by the East Coast Hockey League Cincinnati Cyclones on Thursday, March 1. Fourth-year forward Elliott (#17) was the Varsity Blues rookie of the year in his first season and has scored 69 goals for the team. The Cyclones are affiliated with the NHL’s Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, and the former Blue has played all three of the team’s games since signing.

“We’ll certainly miss his scoring touch and level of play here at U of T, but we wish him well on the next step in his career,” Blues head coach Darren Lowe told varsityblues.ca. Elliot was named to the OUA All-Star second team this season, scoring 35 points in the regular season as the Blues finished fourth in the OUA East.

Lowe is himself a former professional player, having turned out for a number of teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins after his time at U of T. The Blues head coach was named OUA East coach of the year this season.
