Police are searching for the whereabouts of a bronze statue stolen from University of Toronto’s Odette Hall between 9 am and 12 pm Wednesday morning.
The missing statue, whose value is estimated between $10,000 and $20,000, has prompted police to ask for the public’s assistance in tracking it down.
The statue is a 1991 sculpture called “The Door,” by renowned Canadian artist Tony Urquhart, a member of the Order of Canada and recipient of the 2009 Governor General’s Award for Visual Arts and Media. Further details provided by Toronto Police Staff Sgt. Deb Abbott say the sculpture is part of a “vast art collection” and is approximately 50 cm high, 25 cm deep, and 25 cm wide.
As yet, police have not identified any suspects.
This is the second theft of bronze artwork on campus this year. In October, 30 copper plates created by George Hawken were stolen from 1 Spadina Crescent.
