The University of Toronto’s men’s soccer team started the season with a 0–1 loss against the Ryerson Rams. Both teams had multiple opportunities to take the lead throughout the game, but the Rams eked out the victory with only a single goal. Both squads played the first half of the game offensively; however, the closest the Blues came to scoring were a shot to the cross bar in the thirteenth minute, and a close free kick in the thirty-fifth minute. The efficiency and skill of the Blues’ goalkeeper Rab Bruce-Lockhart was obvious as he saved multiple attacks by the Rams’ offense — protecting the net capably on all shot but the decisive goal.

The second half of the match was slower-paced, with the Rams creating more chances than the Blues. Lockhart made a tremendous save in a 1-on-1 possession in the fifty-ninth minute that kept the game tied until the Rams scored in the seventy-seventh minute.

Despite valiant efforts from both sides to score another goal in the final 13 minutes of play, the Blues could not keep themselves from opening the 2015–16 season on a low note.

The men will travel to Kingston to take on Queen’s University Gaels on September 5.
