For the second year in a row, the University of Toronto has been ranked the top postsecondary institution in Canada by both Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and Times Higher Education.
According to the 2019 QS rankings, U of T is rated higher than any other university in the country and 28th worldwide, followed closely by McGill University and the University of British Columbia (UBC) at 33rd and 47th, respectively.
According to the Times Higher Education ranking, U of T also ranks first in Canada and 22nd in the world by reputation. UBC comes in at 38th in the world and McGill at 41st.
Reputation is measured by a survey of “experienced, published scholars, who offer their views on excellence in research and teaching within their disciplines and at institutions with which they are familiar,” according to the Times Higher Education website.
In 2017, the university was also ranked 31st worldwide, according to QS. This was a slight change from 2016, when it was ranked 32nd best, behind McGill but ahead of UBC.
