A new McCafé has opened at the CampusOne residence, making it the third location to open in Toronto. CampusOne is a U of T-affiliated dorm at 253 College Street near UTSG.
“The McCafé locations are a winning offering with our guests,” said John Betts, President and CEO of McDonald’s Canada in a press release. “That’s why I am thrilled that we’re doubling the number of them this year with plans to build even more down the road.”
The new street-level location is the first of its kind in Toronto, and was designed by U of T architecture alum Michael Carlile.
In a statement to The Varsity, Carlile explained his inspiration for the location’s design. “We really wanted to integrate the McCafé site into the U of T [affiliated] student residence by maintaining the existing raw concrete wall. We also used complementary materials that were sourced from local Canadian manufacturers. For example, the rusted metal wall was created by a local Toronto-based metal worker to create an ‘urban’ feel.”
“This unique McCafé will serve as a future model for other McCafé sites,” Carlile added.
Another McCafé location is set to open at Yonge Street and Gerrard Street by the end of the year.
