donors in Canada, we need ongoing support to spread the word and inspire others to join Canada’s Lifeline.
Blood stats in Canada
- Less than 4% of eligible donors sustain Canada’s national
blood
system. - Every 60 seconds, someone in Canada needs blood.
- 50% of all Canadians will need blood or know someone who will.
- 100,000 new donors are needed each year to help meet the needs
of
patients in Canada.
Every blood donation makes a lifesaving difference
The need for blood is constant. One blood donation from a single donor
equals one
unit of blood. It often takes more than one generous donor to help treat a patient.

All blood types are needed
- Every donation is tested as part of the blood donation process
to identify exactly which type they belong to. - Common blood types like O-positive and A-positive are always
in need because so many Canadians share them. - Rare blood types like A-negative, B-negative, and especially
O-negative are needed because they are harder to find within the donor population.

we need donors to fill every one of those spots.
