It is possible to create a form of ice that can be heated to 100°C-and still remain solid. Known as Ice 7, it is created by subjecting normal ice to a pressure of 22,000 atmospheres, the equivalent of about 40,000 elephants standing on one square yard. The crystal structure of normal ice rearranges into a more compact form, and if the pressure is maintained, can be heated into “hot ice.”
