Last week, after 10 years and 500 shows, the Wavelength Music Arts Project came to a close with a five-night concert series.
Wavelength has been lauded not only for introducing key acts from Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy) to Broken Social Scene, but also for fostering an inclusive environment for emerging artists. Many of the series top protegés revisited their roots by playing Wavelength 500, which took place from February 10 to 14.
It’s clear that the indie launch pad will be missed—the entire 500 series was sold out, with venues from Sneaky Dee’s to the Garrison packed to the gills with well-wishers. Still, co-founder Johnny Dovercourt insists that Wavelength won’t disappear entirely. The organizers plan on shifting to a monthly format with an increased focus on cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary events.
