On June 30, Governor General David Johnston announced 86 new appointees to the Order of Canada. Twenty-three of the honourees are members of the U of T community.
The new honourees included faculty, alumni, and honourary degree recipients.
David Cronenberg, the celebrated filmmaker and U of T alumnus, was designated a companion, the highest level of the Order of Canada.
David Goldbloom, a professor in the Faculty of Psychiatry, and Marion Bogo, a professor in the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, were among faculty members designated as officers of the Order for their impressive work in their respective fields.
Alumni appointees included Jack Long, a musician and co-founder of Canadian music store Long & McQuade; and G. Raymond Chang, a business leader and philanthropist. The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education at Ryerson University is named in his honour.
