According to sources involved in the campaigns, approximately 66 per cent of the roughly 1,600 Graduate Students’ Union (GSU) members who voted on the GSU’s continued membership in the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS) and the CFS-Ontario (CFS-O) voted ‘No.’

Stephen Littley, the referendum’s Chief Returning Officer, declined to confirm the tally, saying results were “held up by having to wait for the Administration to confirm double enveloped ballots that will then be counted.”

A statement on the CRO’s website claimed that the vote was not quorate. “According to the information provided by the administration of the University of Toronto to the Chief Returning Officer, the total number of eligible voters was 16,056 putting quorum at 1606. The total number of votes cast was 1586 (with 12 double enveloped ballots to be verified),” the statement reads.

The referendum question asked: “Are you in favour of continued membership in the Canadian Federation of Student and the Canadian Federation of Students-Ontario?”

Voting was held between Monday, November 24 and Friday, November 28.

Quorum for the vote was 10 per cent of eligible voters. The GSU represents over 15,000 students.
