The Varsity Blues Baseball Team recently completed another great season, where they secured both provincial and national titles. They had a 11–3 win against the Carleton University Ravens in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championship on October 11. The team clinched their third consecutive provincial title at their fifth consecutive appearance in the Championship. The Blues faced off in a rematch against the Ravens on October 19 in a bid for the national title and defeated them 4–2.
The offensive sharpness of the Blues lineup was demonstrated through consistent batting and on-base averages, while the defense showed base-running aggressiveness and in-field out-field conversions. All their efforts are reflected in their outstanding performance in their 15-game winning streak on their way to the national title.

Their success not only reflects their skills and consistency in performance, but also the depth of the team. Both rookies and veterans contributed to the team’s dominance in the National Championship, with second-year outfielder Diego Fuentes claiming the Tournament MVP title. Head Coach Andrew Needles described to Varsity Blues media that players “displayed such poise and delivered in key moments” in the game.
On the pitching front, veteran fourth-year pitcher Ethan Kwong took home the Pitcher of the Tournament title. On the second day at Nationals in Montreal, Kwong earned the win for the U of T Varsity Blues against the Acadia University Axemen. He gave up three hits and zero runs over eight innings, in an outstanding performance that set the tone and sealed the win for the Varsity Blues.
Other notable players in the national championship include infielders Ryan Hsu and Marcus Santos, and infielder and outfielder Sam Aslanowicz. Hsu’s two run batted-in (RBI) in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Blues the lead, bringing the score from 2–2 to 4–2. The prior two RBI were earned by Aslanowicz and Santos, respectively.
After another dominant run, the Varsity Blues Baseball Team once again stamped their success onto the Canadian university baseball books. The remarkable season demonstrated both skills and depth. With another excellent finish to the season, there are many bright aspects to expect from the future of U of T Baseball.
