A $10 million donation from AIC Limited Chairman and CEO Michael Lee-Chin has pushed U of T’s endowment fund over the $1 billion mark. Ironically, the fund had already surpassed the vaunted mark before, but investment losses had sunk the number back below.
Lee-Chin, pictured on the screen, was in Calgary at the time of the announcement and participated in the press conference live via satellite.
The campaign for this billion-dollar run came in 1997, but President Robert Birgeneau says he isn’t finished; he announced that the university will gather another $1 billion within a decade. Featured in the press conference were (L-R) Rotman School of Business Dean Roger Martin, U of T President Robert Birgeneau, and campaign chair Tony Comper.
