Secret Santa at The Varsity’s holiday party this year was really special. One of our Associate Arts Editors, Ariel Lewis, gave me two etched glasses reading “The Varsity Wine Snob.” Once I got over the initial speechlessness of receiving such an epic Secret Santa gift, I tried to express thanks for such a thoughtful gesture. In hindsight I should have stopped what I was doing, run to the LCBO, and purchased a bottle of champagne.

The shape of the bottle, the sensuous pop of the cork, and the voluptuous sweetness amongst bubbles all make champagne a ballin’ drink. The only difference between sparkling wine and champagne is that the later is produced in a specific region of France. Instead of splurging, settle for a good quality, low cost sparkling wine, such as the Peller Estates French Cross Sparkling Wine. It’s delicious.

Stay tuned, as next week I will provide three tips to making the most of your champagne experience!
