The hit Coldplay album Mylo Xyloto pairs the band’s more recent sounds of Viva La Vida with more classic Coldplay melodies similar to those found on X&Y. The album acts as a singular love story with the ups and downs of a tumultuous relationship that (spoiler alert) has a happily-ever-after ending. As a whole, the album is considerably more downbeat and acoustic but with the classic Coldplay alternative touch. Fans of classic Coldplay will be pleased as it truly evokes memories of the earlier crowd-pleasers that won the band its fanbase. “Don’t Let it Break Your Heart,” “Up in Flames,” and “Paradise” are reminiscent of earlier Coldplay works. A personal favourite from the album is “Up in Flames,” which features a quietly intense moment amidst the turbulence of the relationship and prompts some good ol’ Coldplay nostalgia.
