A small camera was reported to police inside an all-gender washroom in the Bora Laskin Law Library on February 1. Campus Police are working with Toronto Police Services (TPS) to investigate the incident.

TPS were unable to provide The Varsity with more information describing the camera or its exact location, as the investigation is ongoing. TPS have not yet determined how long the device was in the washroom, and would not comment on whether the device was recording. TPS say there are no current suspects.

Chief Law Librarian Gian Medves wrote an email to Law Students on February 2 informing them of the investigation. “The safety of our students is of utmost importance, and the Faculty is working closely with Campus Police to support their efforts,” he wrote. “We know this incident is unsettling for our community.”

Individuals with more information regarding the incident are being asked to contact the Community Safety Office, Campus Police, or TPS.
