Campus Safety are seeking a person of interest after they displayed what appeared to be a box cutter and threatened a community member. It is unclear at this time if the “community member” was a student. This incident occurred yesterday, May 11, at approximately 5:30 pm in the Bahen Centre. No physical injuries have been reported.
The individual has been described by campus safety as “male, approximately 60 years old, with a thin build and a salt-and-pepper beard,” last seen wearing “a grey hat, blue hoodie, black jacket and light blue jeans,” and carrying a black backpack.
Police have been notified and patrols in the area have increased in frequency. Students who have seen the person of interest are asked to not approach them, move to a safe location, and immediately contact Campus Safety at 416-978-2222.
The Toronto Police Service wrote in an email to The Varsity that they will be looking into the incident.
A spokesperson for the university declined to provide additional comment on the incident, writing in an email to The Varsity, “we have nothing to add to the information shared through the UTAlert.”
