Kreeft Dinner a queer affairOn Friday, Nov. 8, the St. Michael’s College “Students for Life” group is hosting a lecture by Peter Kreeft on “Sexuality, Marriage and the Family.” Kreeft has published a number of books and articles that describe queer people as immoral, sick and enemies in a “culture war.” Given the title of his talk, we think it highly likely that he will be spreading his hateful attacks on LGBTQ people during his talk on Friday. LGBTOUT (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgendered of the University of Toronto) members will be at the talk, handing out queer-positive materials and challenging his position. We would appreciate the moral and physical support of queer-positive people who are willing to challenge Kreeft and fundamentalists like him who spread hatred in the name of Christianity. Please contact LGBTOUT ([email protected]) for more information. Your editorial staff is a bunch of morons who desperately grope around in the dark for strongly worded opinions about things that don’t matter. For example, the guy who whined about commuting with smelly people, and the girl who had a problem with a guy staring at her breasts. I’m no literary critic or a journalist, but I know shit when I smell it!Gil HagiRegarding Birgeneau’s comment“White students too often choose to go to other universities because we are so diverse”: If this is true, I would like to express my joy that racist students, regardless of their backgrounds, choose to stay away from U of T. It seems like the one bright light in this day and age of racial profiling just south of the border. For myself, at least I will have to deal with fewer anti-Middle Easterners on campus.Sara VossoughiRe: “Getting something off her chest” Considering she isn’t one, Ms. Blair seems to know a lot about men. I won’t bother commenting on the blatant irony and hypocrisy of her using negative stereotypes of men while calling herself a “feminist.”I understand why Ms. Blair is upset. Nearly everyone, regardless of gender, has been the object of unwanted attention. It is Ms. Blair’s choice of action that I find particularly juvenile. Instead of voicing her concern to the male offending her, she instead focuses her frustration on some random man on a bus. I’m sure Ms. Blair helped all the men on that bus realize that women are not “hungry for their penises” by staring stupidly at this man’s crotch. “I realized that I was still in control as long as I could be cruel,” Ms. Blair says confidently. Congratulations, Ms. Blair, you have harnessed the power of fear. Cruel actions instil fear, followed closely by obedience. Schoolyard bullies do this. Tyrants do this. Abusers of women and children do this. Ms. Blair is truly a hero for women everywhere.Adrian Barek
