A university student has dropped out of school due to Halifax’s ongoing transit strike.

Chase Sabourin, 19, a second-year Saint Mary’s University (SMU) student who commutes to school and his three part-time jobs, told The Chronicle Herald that he left school to salvage his suffering GPA and save cash as he has yet to pay the semester’s tuition.

CBC news reported that 39,000 students in Halifax are also feeling the strike’s sting as they are required to buy the #134 U pass upon enrolling in post-secondary school.

SMU faculty members are encouraged to offer affected students alternative options for attendance and participation. Some are considering temporarily offering online classes.
