Toronto Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred earlier today inside the Earth Sciences Centre at 22 Russell Street.

​CBC News reported that a student with a knife attacked a professor inside the building. The victim was cut in the arm and the leg, and sustained minor injuries.

​Police say that one person is in custody.

“The incident is currently under active investigation by Toronto Police Services. The University is supporting their efforts and will cooperate fully with the police as needed,” said Althea Blackburn-Evans, U of T director of media relations.

Update (Thursday, September 11, 2014): Xiaoyue Zhou, 21, a second-year mathematics and economics student, has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a dangerous weapon, and criminal harassment in connection with the stabbing. Blackburn-Evans declined comment on specific elements of the case, saying the university cannot comment on any campus police reports or investigations.”
